Art in Uis

The Works of Coenraad Louw

Local artist Coenraad Louw has created two stunning art installations in Uis that capture the essence of the region’s history and wildlife.

The Elephant in Uis

  • This life-size metal sculpture of an elephant stands as a tribute  to the desert-adapted elephants that roam near Uis and the Brandberg
  • Made from metal, it symbolises the resilience of both the elephants and the people of Uis.

• It is a popular photo spot and an important reminder of wildlife conservation in the area.

The White Lady Statue

• A sculptural representation of the White Lady rock painting, bringing the ancient artwork to life in a three-dimensional form.

• The statue celebrates San heritage and the cultural importance of the  Brandberg Paintings.

• Positioned in Uis, it makes the White Lady more accessible to those who cannot hike to the actual painting.

We are currently underway with the Paint the Elephant on Stone Promotion

🎨 Celebrate Ancient Art — Create Your Own! 🐘🪨
Uis is home to more than 45,000 ancient Bushman rock paintings, telling stories of lions, elephants, and life in the wild. Now it’s your turn to become part of this legacy! 🌍✨

We’re inviting all creatives, young and old, to join our Elephant Rock Painting Competition – a fun and meaningful celebration of the incredible rock art heritage in our region.

Join us on-site at Green Elephant Cottages for a live rock painting session!
🪨 Bring your own rock (yes, literally!) and paint your best elephant inspired by the ancient artworks.

Our ongoing competition continues until end of November, with exciting prizes and a final showcase planned for early December! 🏆🎁

Let’s honour the past by creating something new, colourful, and unforgettable.
We can’t wait to see your wild and wonderful elephants! 🐘🎨
